A little bit about Paul

After numerous urban raids in the golden age of graffiti, graduating in graphic design in Paris, and working for a few international companies as a graphic designer and illustrator, Paul Larricart started his career as a painter in Biarritz, city famed for being the birthplace of European surf. Taken under the wing of French curator and collector Gérard Decoster (owner of the biggest art collection in the world linked to surf), Paul had commissions for different surf brands and successfully exhibited his work in different collective shows and festivals. He featured in numerous surf related media and was named "the precursor of sexual connotation in surf art".

Coinciding with his move to London in 2011, his work took a turn: he developed a unique method somewhere in between collage and stencil which is characterized by being voluntarily ill defined. Influenced by Russian Constructivism, which stresses the impossibility of interpretation and rejects the western philosophical tradition of seeking certainty through reasoning, Paul's recent work is an exploration of his consciousness, a personal psychological interpretation of shapes which create dreamlike metaphors that take the viewer into a graphic universe of icons diverted from their original connotations.

Paul's work has been presented in various exhibitions, fairs and festivals, such as: Marché d'Art Contemporain Consacré au Surf (Biarritz), Roxy Jam (Biarritz), The Other Art Fair (London), Spacejunk Art Center (Bayonne) . He also has produced murals for the Apple Center (Anglet) and the Camden Stable Market (London). More recently, as part of his involvement in community work, Paul has lead multi-layered stencil workshops organized by Street Art London (at Dulwich Picture Gallery -the world's first purpose-built public art gallery- and at the Kingston College of Art). He currently lives and works in London.
